Muse Day-July, 2008

This is my first attempt at 'Muse Day' so if I don't get it right, I apologise. Muse Day comes to us through Carolyn Gail at Sweet Home and Garden in Chicago.

"Answer July-
Where is the Bee-
Where is the Blush-
Where is the Hay-

Ah, said July-
Where is the Seed-
Where is the Bud-
Where is the My-
Answer Thee-Me"

Emily Dickinson, Answer July

"Mosquito is out,
it's the end of the day;
she's humming and hunting
her evening away.
Who knows why such hunger
arrives on such wings
at sundown? I guess
it's the nature of things."

N.M. Boedecker Midsummer Night Itch

Both photos are from Wikipedia.

I thought both these quotes very appropriate for July. We have all been concerned for the bee population. I can report, however, that the mosquito population is doing exceedingly well here in Illinois!

Happy Muse Day.

*if I am not heard from for a while, it is because I have a very injured lap top. The hinge is broken on one side and I am having trouble getting it to come on and stay on. May have to take it to the computer Doctor!

Good morning Beckie. Happy July 1.

The mosquito poem is cute. We are having a horrible plague of skeeters this season. All the flooding I guess. Really puts a damper on enjoying the outdoors. My new perfume, L'eau de DEET or Parfum D'Off.

I would guess there's no wrong way to be visited by a muse! :)

Happy Muse Day Beckie! I love your poems and the insect pics are fantastic.

Beth, thanks. The mosquitoes are really nasty here now. I know it's because of all the rain. But the rain has made everything so green and lush. Especially have to watch the little ones when they are out.

Marnie, That's cute! L'eau de Deet seems to work better here.

Monica, thanks for stopping by.

PG, I found those poems a while back and had been waiting to use them. I thought I could get my own pictures-have you ever tried to photograph a mosquito!!? So I went the easy way.:)

Hi Beckie....I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt the mosquito is alive and well in Kent. I am bitten all over, they absolutely love me......

Great poems for muse day Beckie. Well done. I was just thinking about mosquitos last evening when it was so lovely weather-wise and I wanted to sit on the patio. However I was ran back into the house by the mosquitos. Boooooo Now it is hot again.

Great post, Beckie! I was going to compliment you on the stunning photos:) Not sure I've ever read this poem by Emily; certainly is appropriate for July.
I had planned a Muse post for today for a long time, but it involved a photo of a hummingbird, and the hummingbirds have been very scarce around here lately.

Hope the "computer Doc" can get your laptop up and running again.

Cheryl, oh no! Get you some repellent girl. It doesn't harm the bugs just keeps them away from you. Try a bath with baking soda in it. It will help with the itching. It's supposed to be windy here tomorrow so I am going out to weed. The mosquitoes won't bother as bad then.

Mumm, thank you and thanks for visiting. Your post today was inspired.

Lisa, thanks! We either have no mosquitoes and no rain or rain and mosquitoes. I think I'll take the rain, and suffer the bugs.:)

Rose, I found these poems weeks ago and planned on taking my own pictures. Harder than it sounded so I fudged a little. When you get the hummer picture go ahead and post what you have.(notice I said when!)I think the computer Doc may be an expensive one.

You can never go wrong with Emily Dickinson. Now the picture of the mosquito... Sorry, it's just that I have the worst itches in the middle of my back & my ankle from the little buggers. My daughter is allergic to mosquito bites. The area around the bite swells, & turns red & hard. Very creepy.

Cindy, welcome and thanks. This is a lot of fun!

MMD, Sorry about the mosquito! It is an in your face picture, isn't it? As I told Lisa, I guess if we want rain, were going to have to put up with the little buggers. One granddaughter is also allergic and we make sure she is gooped up before going out. And if she does get bit, she gets a bath with baking soda in the water which seems to help. Are you sure the ankle bites aren't chiggers? Another of God's creatures that I wonder, "What was he thinking!"

Fun post, Beckie. Have always wanted to join Muse Day but time eludes me. I'm gone so much of the summer running back and forth to the lake it's hard to catch up. Fun to visit and see life through your talented eye.

Very nice Muse day posting Beckie.

We also have chiggers to deal with here? How about up there? I am now the proud owner of a shirt that comes impregnated with insect repellent...REI sells them....they work.
