New Blooms, and This and That!

It feels more like summer than spring here today. The temperatures were in the low 80's. But the sun was out ,the breeze was gentle, and to sit in the shade and sip a cool drink was heaven.

I have been embracing the weeds, but they are gaining ground! I am still trying to find places for plants, the ones I've bought and the seedlings I have left. And I am watering every evening. With the horrific winds of late and the hot sun, they've really needed the water. I'm already getting tired of that chore. Maybe, hopefully, it will rain soon. I've begun to wonder if I haven't tried to do too much too soon in the gardens. But then I see something new bloom, or a newly planted plant get new growth and I am thrilled. I will do what I can, when I can, and in the end it will all work out.

My new bloom... Wisteria!

The dove is still sitting on the nest in the wisteria.(if you enlarge you can see her better)

I know you are probably getting tired of my lilacs, but indulge me a few more pictures, please. These next three are at my mother-in-laws. I think I will try to get starts of them this fall.

Did you know there are over a 1,000 varieties and they can live for hundreds of years? Originally from Europe, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson had lilacs in their gardens.

Another bouquet with all 5 kinds. .. her 3 and my 2.

A bouquet of fragrant lilacs is heaven!

Look what else is just beginning to bloom at MIL's. Poppies!

I had to hold this one up to get it's face. They look like crepe paper flowers.

I hope you enjoy this time in your gardens.

I can almost smell your lilacs. Ours are just starting to bloom. Can't wait to merge my favorite two scents. Lilac and lily of the valley. Always just in time for my birthday.
I never could get my wisteria to bloom, we keep cutting it down now.
Lovely poppy by the way!

That bouquet of 5 differnt types of lilacs is to die for Beckie. I wish I had more colors now. Ha... My one poppy is about to bloom too. I will have to check it again this morning. I look every morning and the bloom is slowly emerging. Such anticipation,I just love those crepe paper blooms.

Beckie, your lilac bouquet is just beautiful. Now you are making me want to plant more lilacs. I'm going to have to stop by to see your wisteria; I don't think I've ever seen it before.

Beckie, sometimes I think I've bitten off more than I can chew in my gardens too, leaving me a little overwhelmed. The weeds have been so prolific this year they do seem to be taking over.

I brought in my first ever lilac bouquet this morning before the rains come. It does indeed smell divine. Your lilac bouquet is so pretty.

I don't think there could be anything more romantic than blooming wisteria in your garden *with* a nesting dove!

I adore lilacs. Most of mine are only one year old now, but I have one very old tough one that I've let grow a bunch of suckers. I plan to dig out the best ones this year and plant them along our fence. I wish I'd known I could do this last year before I spent over $200 on a lilac hedge!

Hhhhhmmmmm smell those fragrant blooms.....I never tire of lilac or wisteria, they are both heavenly. I am fortunate that my neightbours lilac overhangs our garden. Lovely.
Beautiful poppies, how can one resist.
Thank you Beckie for a lovely post...especially the wisteria, I shall miss my blooms this year.

Beth, I just couldn't resist another bouquet as they are beginning to fade. The whole house smells of spring.

Jane Marie, Well happy coming birthday! Our Lily of the Valley is just on the verge of blooming. We had to move our wisteria from a southern exposure to a northern one and the it bloomed. Of course it was much smaller then!

Nancy, thank you. I don't tire of them either and we only have to wait 50 weeks til they bloom again!

Robin, the prolific weeds are the price we have to pay for such a glorious spring, I guess. We will just have to do what we can. And especially now with you working.

Amy, I just read a piece on pruning and starting new lilacs and am thinking of transplanting a couple of the suckers from my MIL's this fall. I hope your hedge does well for you!

Cheryl, you are so welcome! I'm glad you are getting to enjoy some lilacs at least and hope next year your wisteria does well.

Karen, thanks and thanks for stopping by!

Lisa, after seeing them start to bloom , we have wind and rain today. It seems that happens every year to them..kind of like the peonies.

Rose, it doesn't stay in bloom for long so you probably just have missed it. I know after seeing the lilacs at the U of I I had lilac envy.
