August Muse Day

Muse day, August 1, 2008. Brought to you by Carolyn Gail of Sweet Home and Garden in Chicago.

"Fairest of the months! Ripe summer's queen

The hey-day of the year

With robes that gleam with sunny sheen

Sweet August doth appear."- R. Combe Miller

"Whilst August yet wears her golden crown, Ripening fields lush- bright with promise;Summer waxes long, then wanes, quietly passing Her fading green glory on to riotous Autumn."- Michelle L. Thieme, August's Crown

"Summer's lease hath all too short a date."- William Shakespeare

Hope August brings you lots of gardening joy!

I don't like August. August brings so many weeds and heat. Two things I don't like. Ha.. I always figure if I survive August I can make it through most anything.

Beautiful post Beckie! August can be our worse month for heat. Hope that is not the case this year. Happy gardening and have a nice weekend.

Beckie,

Lovely quotes and poem! This is a month of too much heat and humidity and not enough rain, sigh. On the other hand life is still good and worth celebrating and I get to see my Virgo son soon!

Very lovely poems. I like "Summer waxes long, then wanes, quietly passing." Hard to believe this summer is almost over. Where did it go?

Your Shakespeare quote reminds me of the John Mortimer novel "Summer's Lease," which makes me wish I was in Tuscany (or anywhere in Italy) right now. Summer is not my favorite season, so I guess I'll be happy enough to see it wane.

I've never been especially fond of August. I hate to say that. Life is short and we should make the best of each day. At least with August now here we can hopefully see fall around the corner. On a positive note, July has been pretty tough so maybe August will be cooler!!! (lol)

Beautiful post, Beckie. You've made my Friday too! Loved those August colours - bright yellow and purple.

Judging from the comments, I'm not the only one who has never liked August. But you know for years August meant back to work for me:) I'm trying to appreciate it more. Beautiful quotes, so appropriate. The photo of the corn is great!

Beckie,
Loved your words and photos today.

Very nice to imagine a world where August is something other than suffocatingly humid and hot.

When we come to this time of year I start "talking" to my garden reminding it if it can hang on for about 45 more days it will get a little relief. Of course that's never a guarantee down here either but the chances become greater for a cool breeze here and there.

Hope you have a great gardening weekend.
