Garden Bloggers Bloom Day-June, 2008

I do have a few newly blooming flowers that I haven't shown and a couple that I have posted, but thought were worth seeing again. I was worried that I wouldn't, but the rain and then the hot sun made them pop just in time.

Yellow Asiatic lily-name unknown. In fact, these and a few others spread around the gardens are DIPT ones that showed up about 5 years ago.

These I did plant and are called Apple Blossom.

My cherry tomatoes, 'Gartenperle', are compliments of Cheryl. I've never grown English tomatoes before.

An annual, 'Penstemon', Phoenix Appleblosson. I am hoping the bees and the hummingbirds will especially like this one.

Of course, I had to show this root stock rose again. It has been in full bloom for 2 weeks! It is definitely staying.

Martha Stewart Heritage has had more beautifully perfect blooms.

One last lone iris. Name unknown and is it just me or does it look a little deformed?

Some of the wild flowers I started indoors. I have them in several spots in the gardens and they are so delicate looking. I am going to try to save some of the seeds to plant again next year.

And finally, false sunflower-I think. I bought one small plant years ago before I knew to keep plant tags. It spread, and spread and then spread some more. I have been trying to get rid of it, but every year it pops up in new places.
Hope you have a lovely Garden Bloggers Bloom Day!

Beckie, I'm impressed--you are usually running late (and so am I, to be fair). Here you are almost two days ahead!
Anyone seeing that false sunflower would think how pretty it is--and it is pretty. But they should have put a warning on its label! I don't think the starts you gave me are going to make it. Why is it that some plants spread so aggressively on their own, but can't be transplanted?

My post is scheduled for midnight; we'll see if blogger cooperates.

Your blooms are lovely Beckie. My favorite is...hmmmm, let me think. I like them all. I think that iris isn't deformed. It is possibly a siberian iris?? That false sunflower looks like a plant I have but the one I have hasn't been naughty yet. I do have what some call a jeruselem artichoke or false sunflower. It gets to be 5' tall and it is invasive as can be. Can't get rid of it. I started it by my fence to hide it temporarily until I got other things growing and it has tried to take over. I can't turn my back on it. It has a flower simular to the one you have shown. Does yours get tall? I wonder if they are the same plant.

I'm not sure of the name of false sunflower, I haven't heard of that, but I believe you have a heliopsis. It looks like mine. They do spreaby seed but I find mine very easy to contain. It seems to stay in one area. Mine has buds but isn't ready to bloom yet. It's about 4 1/2 to 5 feet tall.

Wow. Very impressive - I like the deep reds for the hummingbirds. My wildflowers from seed don't look too good right now but I suspect they'll take off soon.

Good job, Beckie~

Hi Beckie....those blooms are beautiful....I love the lily apple blossom....I love soft colours.
Glad you are keeping the rose, she is without doubt a 'doer' I would love to have that in my garden. Do you garden on clay??
Penstemons are lovely, mine are very late this year. The buds are slowly appearing, but I sometimes think summer will pass before they bloom!!!
Hope you are well and enjoying your Sunday....

I especially love your lilies. Good pics - of everything.
You'll have to let us know how Cheryl's (yours now) English cherry tomatoes taste.

Rose, we had the littlest granddaughter Sat. and night, so had to post early. I think you will be glad the sunflower didn't make it. Although, I have plenty more if you'd like to try again.

Lisa, it's not a Siberian, but does seem to have a problem-only had about 3 blooms this year. I will give it one more year. Yes, those darn flowers get tall, and spread. Like I said they pop up any and everywhere. I used to feel bad about pulling them out when they were crowding something else, but not anymore!

Jane Marie, whatever it is it spreads like crazy here. If yours is contained-great.

Mary, Thanks! So far I haven't seen any hummers.:( but it's been to hot to be out during the day. I'm a wimp and can't take the heat in my old age. Hope your wild flowers start to bloom soon.

Cheryl, I too like to soft colors and seem to have a lot of them with a few bright ones thrown in. We have lovely black soil here that is sooo rich. Honestly, it will grow anything and are lucky. I checked some of the other plants I grew from the seed you sent and they are so close-can't wait to show them.

We are having a lovely Sunday-Father's day. Quiet, as we did the Dad's thing yesterday so the kids could be with the other side today.

Wendy, Thanks. I am a big lily fan too. They are so easy to take care of and have such pretty blooms. I am anxious for those tomatoes to set and grow!

Beautiful flowers, and uhmmm could you send some of the rain down to Texas? We're gett'n a mite parched down here..

Cathy, welcome to blog land! I enjoyed your bloom day post.

Nancy, I would if I could. We missed a good storm this eve. I think it split and went around us. We had a lot of wind though and it cooled from91 to 68 in about a half an hour. Ahhh!

Lots of beauty popping in your garden, Beckie. I wish I could post my garden but time eludes me. I shot some beauties this morning that will show up sometime, perhaps this week. Regardless, it's fun to visit your garden and knowing you is a joy.

My lilies are just opening.

I have serious tomato envy. Mine are not happy. They are sulking thru this rain and dreary weather.

I think that Iris doesn't like all the rain. The Sunflower seems to be digging it, though. Even though that is understock, the Rose is very pretty.

Joey, I know the feeling some days about time. There never seems to be enough of it. I hope your sister is doing as well as can be expected. Thanks for the compliment.

Marnie, luckily, I have my 2 little tomatoes in a pot so I can control, somewhat, the water. My Asiatic lilies are just opening too, but have seen no bloom stalks on the others. Guess, I'll just have to be more patient.

MMD, that may very well be what's wrong with the iris. You're right about the sunflower. Last year when we were so dry it didn't come up nearly as much. I love roses and would have more(many have died the last few years0, but I despise those Japanese Beetles and what they do to them. The Heritage seems to fare pretty well with them though.

Beckie, love your photos. That rose may make me a convert yet (I've been gardening for 20 years and never grown a rose, though I have cared for them as a gardener for hire)!

Nature Girl, I did read your post about the new baby, Congratulations!! We wouldn't know what to do with a boy baby here.:) When I read your profile, I noticed we had several common interests. It will be fun exploring them. Thanks for stopping by.

Monica, I can't believe you've never had a rose of your own! I do love them so. Lost several over the last few years, but this year I planted 4 climbers. They seem to do pretty well here, although we will have to see with these varieties. I so enjoyed your blog. Thanks for visiting!

I'm the one running late this month in visiting all the bloom day posts. I had that false sunflower, but I think I've finally rid the garden of it. Ugh. What a thug! (Though it was one of the few plants that bloomed well in the 'moderate drought' last year.)

Beckie, your blooms are beautiful! I love the Asiatics. My 'Lollipop' looks very similar to your 'Apple Blossom'. Mine is more red than I expected it to be. I had been looking forward to pink!
That Penstemon is lovely. I must try some in my garden.
We had a rose grow from root stock once but it didn't bloom. After 3 summers of 'waiting to see' we replaced it. Yours looks gorgeous!
I hope your roof is fixed by now. What a time you've had!
Plant shopping..my favorite thing to shop for. Lucky you! You got some beauties! I love the verbenas.
Thanks for stopping by and saying hello :)
