White Stuff and a Rant!

Snow! Yes, it really snowed this evening in central Illinois. I'll admit you had to look quickly and it's not a measurable amount. But it does kind of put me in the holiday mood. You know, 'over the river and through the woods...through the white and drifting snow'. I think those are the words. At least that's the way I sing it!

I couldn't resist taking a few pictures. So I put a jacket over my pajamas, slipped on my shoes and the cat and I went out on the patio. I hope the neighbors didn't see me out there in the dark bending over and taking pictures.

By morning it may be gone-at least I got to enjoy it for a little while. There is an old saying that says the date the first snow falls foretells the number of snows for the winter. Does that mean we will have 16 more snows? If they are all as lite as this one, winter won't be too bad.

And now for the 'rant' part. I have been trying for days to download or upload, I'm not very good with computer terminology, this picture. I wanted the header on my blog to be Thanksgiving-y.

I did get it on there, but so tiny you could barely see it. Back to my pictures and into fix mode. Tried to enlarge it. Didn't work. Of course blogger was in S-L-O-W mode while I was attempting the change. My rant is two-fold I guess. First, I don't know enough about the workings of my computer and it's programs. And secondly, blogger can be so #%{*! annoying most of the time. The not knowing I can fix. I'd like to take a computer class this winter at the adult ed. center. Blogger is something I may have to live with as I'm sure I don't know enough to change to one of the other services!

I wish you all a glorious Thanksgiving. May your day be filled with family, love, laughter and joy.

lovely snow! I share your aggravation over computers--they have become indispensable but I wish we could reason with them or at least bribe them.

You lucky dog. No snow here. I love snow but we don't get much of it.

I can identify with your computer program problems. I don't know enough to help. I just know enough to get frustrated.

beckie,
I've never heard of that old saying about the date and the snow. I hope it's true since our first snow fell on the 10 th. and we had another one yesterday, that means we only have 8 more to go. Woohoo!!

I suffer your same frustration with the header photo. Urrr! On a good note, we get it you want to wish us a great Thanksgiving. You too Beckie!

Blogger can be quite aggravating at times. Taking a computer class sounds like fun! I wouldn't mind doing that either.

Thanks for sharing the snow pictures. Snow is so beautiful. That pure white is hard to beat. Thanks for sharing them. Down here in the south we don't see too much of it.

What time was this snowfall, Beckie? I completely missed it! You must have been up late...

You know I get as frustrated as you with my computer and with Blogger, too. When I was working on my Bloom Day post, every time I went to save, it erased my last few paragraphs. I finally decided my internet connection was loose. And I still haven't figured out the spacing on Blogger--it seems to want to add spaces and delete others for no particular reason.

Happy early Thanksgiving to you, too.

Snow! Lovely to photo and then it should go away!

Blogger is very frustrating! Computers are very frustrating. My walking buddy is pretty computer savvy...she visits all the forums and informs me that our servers (comcast, etc) are having LOTS of problems causing hiccups in service that they deny is their responsibility. There is heavy usage and the server infrastructure can't do what it used to do!

The header issues....I tried and tried until I figured out you have to take a section of the photo and use it! I used the middle section of a shot I took of clouds. That may not help you...cause I am not explaining it well! But trying to shrink the photo didn't work!

Good luck, maybe someone cn really help!

I think the problem with the picture is that it doesn't have enough pixels. I usually go with an 800 x 300 pixel-sized photo.
At least you're happy about the snow. I still have more work to get done out there.

For the banner problems, perhaps you could print the image, then enlarge it on a photocopier to the size you want (or on your printer if it does photocopies). Then what's probably easiest is to scan the picture and then upload the file to Blogger.

Another option would be to take a photograph of the picture and then select the "shrink to fit" option when you upload.

The first suggestion would probably give you the most success if you have the equipment available. Too bad you live so far away or I'd offer to help you do it!

I'm not the most computer savvy person but my husband can do pretty much anything, so I'm lucky to be able to have help and learn new things from him.

That is a pretty snowfall you got Beckie! I imagine I would of done the same thing and my neighbors already think I'm crazy running around w/my camera all the time. lol ;) I feel your frustration with blogger, hence why I switched to wordpress.

Hi Beckie.....I do love to see the snow.....I love the quiet it brings......and the softness......
It is still wet and chilly here......and very cold weather is due on Sunday......

Can't help you with your header sadly.......I absolutely loathe the computor.....but it is something I need to use......But I don't go too deeply, it just does not interest me, sadly......Give me a garden any day......Hope you work it out......

Have loads of fun......

Beth, unfortunately it was very little and didn't last long. Bribery? If only! :)

Lisa, it is all gone. :( I think that my problem is I see thse great tings on others' blog and I want to try them, but just am not computer savvy. I guess I willhave to be content with what I do know.

Flydragon, not sure where that saying came from as I've heard it since I was little-only a few years ago. :) I like one measureable snow around Christmas and then want it to go away and warm up.

Tina, that was exactly what I wanted to say!

Susie, I imagine if you got a snow down there everyone would take a holiday!

Rose, it was late. I was checking on the cat-she likes to take a midnight jaunt outside-and just happened to see it. Blogger is great, but does have it's problems. I suppose any program does. I think it is just getting to many people using it and the 'whatever' isn't big enough to handle all the traffic.

beckie said...

Gail, yes! it should stay around just long enough to look pretty and then melt.

Your explanation of the problems was just what I was trying to explain. Computers-can't live with them, can't live with out them. Oh wait, that's men! Almost as much trouble though. :)

MMD, you are probably right about the pixels. Isn't it amazing the words we use on a daily basis now? Hope you get your gardening chorws done.

Amy, you are lucky your husband is computer literate. I have a son in law who is great and has helped me many times, but hate to bother him with the little things. I should try the photo copying. My printer is a scanner too. Thanks for the help.

Cheryl, a heavy wet snow does bring a silence and calm to the world. If the wind isn't blowing, I like to be out in it. I hope it does't get too cold there. Hope all your bees are in for the winter.

I like computers for things like blogging and making great friends. And I do 'google' when I want to now something-that's handy. I also make list on them. That way I don't have to worry about being able to read my writing later. But the can be so annoying. :) Have a great week.

Racquel, if only our neighbors knew the lengths we go to to get pictures for our posts! I knew you switched because of problems with Blogger. How do you like wordpress. Any problems there?

Hi Becky, I'd never heard of that - the first snowfall foretells how many snows for the coming winter. I'll have to go back and see when we had our first snowfall!

Oh I hate computers too - when they don't work. I had downloaded or uploaded (I'm not good at techy terminology either) a pic for my header a while ago and added a firecracker effect. Then I couldn't get rid of it. Whenever I hit the "remove image" button for my header, it wouldn't remove it! I tried to find some "help" with blogger, but they only give answers for normal stuff. Anything else I find they don't really have the answers for, or you have to hunt really hard.
So I just googled "how do I remove image from my blog header". Yup, the whole sentence and I found a "blog tips" blog that showed me how to remove the whole thing. And add 2 more headers! It can be done - and if we ever learn HTML - then the sky's the limit! (I think).
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

Hi Beckie! I read your post this morning when I got up and pictured you walking outside in the dark in your slippers, etc! I've certainly done that myself! My son said he saw flurries today at school but I didn't--although, it has been getting below freezing for several nights now and staying in the 30"s in the day lately. I guess we might as well face facts...summer's OVER!! Take care! Jan

I'll probably be seeing snow myself soon--I have to go to Denver for my grandson's college graduation in mid-December. It's been years since I've seen snow.
Your photos are great.

my hubby went hunting yesturday and in some parts of the woods the snow was 2 feet already!! I'm glad to hear someone else is having problems with blogger being slow I thought we may have a problem here.

Wendy, it is amazing what you can find on 'google'. I have typed in some weird questions too and usually get what I am looking for. The other day I used it to find "ball point pen ink removal" and sure enough got a solution that worked. (spray with hairspray and dab with clean cloth!)As for HTML code-I think not. I can't remember my SS# let alone codes. :) Hope things are going well for you.

Jan, my neighbors think I'm a little odd-the younger ones anyway. The older ones-well I think they are odd. :) Our temps are much the same as yours. No more fall!

Aiyana, I'm sure you'll get to see snow in Denver. Congrats on your son graduating! You must be very proud. Hope you have a great trip and get to do fun things.

Laurie, did Chris have any luck hunting? Tromping around in 2 ft. of snow does NOT sound like fun to me. :) There are days on the computer when I feel like I'm back on dial up!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Beckie -- I'll be posting your first snowfall today! (Just found your comment.) Thanks for letting me know.
